Welcome to the Schoenhut Collectors Club Website. We hope you will find the information you are seeking about the wonderful toys made by the A. Schoenhut Toy Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
We truly missed you at this year’s 26th Annual Schoenhut Convention, in Columbus, Indiana.
About 80 persons attended from FL, CA, NJ, OK, and area states. Friday was tour day! Everyone enjoyed visiting a working Cummins Diesel Engine Plant at Walesboro. The architecture tour of Columbus was spectacular, and the doll lover’s had a real treat at Dr. Ruth Holland’s home. Later, we had an evening meal together in the Bartholomew Room. Joe Wells, entertained us with a video presentation of “Why it’s fun to be the membership Secretary”. He told us about some discoveries that were authentic and not so authentic.
On Saturday after the annual meeting, we travelled by van to the Taylor home to see their collections and a tasty lunch. A Pinn Doll presentation with audience participation and Schoenhut’s Graziano 100th birthday party by Carol Corson were the highlight of the afternoon.
We had time to spend in the hub of our convention, the LePub, which was our hospitality room at the hotel where snacks were available and great friends met and visited. “My Favorite Things” which included rare, beautiful dolls, unusual Teddy Roosevelt characters, a moving picture, a lamb roly, and family memorabilia from the Schoenhut family were displayed here.
Barry Smoler was in charge of our “Silent Auction” We had lots of goodies and everyone had fun and some won a prize!
Dinner was served again in the Bartholomew Room. Dr. Gene Metcalf, Professor of American Studies at Miami University of Ohio, was our guest speaker. He gave a most interesting talk on human development and the importance of toys in our culture.
We had time both evenings for visiting and room hopping. We made new friends and loved time spent with old friends.
I’m sure we will have lots of pictures in the December newsletter.
